Interhall Football at Notre Dame is played for several reasons that go beyond the traditional motivations that are given for playing a sport.  The University continues to sponsor the program despite severe monetary costs and harmful injuries.  This suggests that the program has reached such a high level of popularity that it remains vital for the University to continue it.  The sport is important for the player, the fan, and the university as it provides a mechanism for displays of brotherhood and masculinity.
